TerryAnn S. Howell, Esq., a native of the beautiful island of Jamaica, is a licensed attorney in Florida. TerryAnn is also barred in New York and Pennsylvania but does not currently actively practice in those states. TerryAnn has received several awards and recognition, including American Bar Association’s Pro Bono Publico Award, being named National Black Lawyer’s Association’s Top 40 Under 40 Attorney in Florida and Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch, just to name a few. These awards and recognitions did not happen overnight-they are a result of hard work and determination.

TerryAnn migrated from Jamaica in her early teenage years and completed her high school education at Brooklyn School for Global Studies. TerryAnn graduated with the second highest GPA in her class. TerryAnn went on to Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York where she majored in Psychology, minored in Government, and would later graduate cum laude.

TerryAnn has never been afraid of stepping out of her comfort zone. During her time at Skidmore College, TerryAnn studied abroad at University of Westminster in London and at Spelman College in Atlanta through Skidmore’s domestic exchange program. TerryAnn’s ability to embrace change, openness to new ideas, new environments, and new culture, lead her to Florida International University College of Law (FIU Law), in Miami, Florida.

TerryAnn, took on the challenging task of attending FIU College of Law in its part-time evening program while working full-time during the day. In addition to the already challenging task of work and studies, TerryAnn was also a member of, and competed on FIU’s Trial Team. While at FIU Law, TerryAnn worked at several law-firms, completed a summer judicial clerkship for the Honorable Donald L. Graham at the Southern District Court, interned at the U.S. Coast Guard Judge Advocacy General (JAG) Office in Miami and interned at the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office-where she was offered, and accepted a position as an Assistant Public Defender before graduating law school.

“Passionate, Principled Advocacy,” as her trial team coach, the legendary H.T. Smith always say, is not new to TerryAnn. While at FIU Law, TerryAnn won the exceptional advocate award at the Georgetown University Law White Collar Crime Invitational and placed second place at the Sixth Annual Legal Services Closing Argument competition.

As someone who’s seen her own personal struggles, TerryAnn’s goal is to leave a legacy of giving back to those in need through use of her advocacy skills. She has done this through her former role as a Miami-Dade Assistant Public Defender and a Staff Attorney with Legal Services of Greater Miami where she represented indigent individuals in criminal and civil arenas and through her participation in the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Miami Program’s 41st class. TerryAnn is committed to using her career as an Attorney as a vehicle to serve the community and is actively involved in and on the boards of several bar associations and community organizations.

TerryAnn also runs her own non-profit, Grow, Glow, Giveback Corporation which assists low-income individuals overcome all barriers to an education. In furtherance of this cause, TerryAnn also established the TerryAnn S. Howell Book Award in 2018–a highly selective award given to academically qualified students in need. Recipients must also demonstrate their commitment to service-related acts of service.

Outside of working and giving back, TerryAnn loves traveling, skydiving, paintball, and exercising in CrossFit.
